Putting aside the question of why I even need one (just believe me, I do), what do you think would be an appropriate gift for a mother who you don't know that well.

One daughter is 16, the other one lives abroad so she must be older.

How about a digital picture frame?  She can then load the pictures of her family. Hopefully one of you. ;)

That is what I am getting my mother this year as well as a web cam.

What about a little keychain digital camera?  They are much less expensive and more convenient way to carry around pictures (than a wallet).
