    i offer a bet

    ..regarding next president.

I just noticed that this time around a woman, a bi-racial guy, and some no-spine semi-metro-sexual dude are running on democratic side. Anyone with brains knows that in this country a 4 year old white boy with balls of steel has a better chance.

so, my NEW bet is... a bottle of vodka -- that the next pres. will be a republican.

Anyone wanna take me up on that?

    Wow, what confidence!

I'm sure you've considered the fact that the republican party isn't very admired right now.  Personally, I think the conditions are just "right" for the country to 'almost' ignore race and gender... Bush made it so.

Besides, the forerunner for the republicans is a Mormon.  Are you sure that this country is ready for a Mormon president?

It's turning out to be an interesting race...

    Re: i offer a bet

    Pro's & Con's of front-runners:

Hillary - experienced.  But half the country hates her guts = same dysfunction we have in Gov't for another 4 years.

Obama - change.  But so inexperienced he can't help but f*ck things up.

Hillary will probably win since Democrats would love to see us Republicans pissed off for 4 years (just like I've enjoyed seeing y'all miserable for the last 7).

McCain - Experienced.  But if you can believe it, Republicans think he's too liberal.  The right wingers hate him, and that is helping Romney.  Same problem as Hillary really - 4 more years of The Establishment.

Romney - change.  I'm fine wiht Romney if McCain falls down.  By Feb. 5th we will pretty much know.

Huckabee - yuk.  I believe in separation of Church and State.

So, if The Establishment has it's way, it will be Hillary vs. McCain and all of us will continue to be considered irrelevant.  Obama might be fun for 4 years just cuz he's like a kid in a candy store.  Romney might actually fix things if he is as good a manager as he says he is.  God knows we need things fixed.  Just about EVERYTHING is broken.

McCain?  He's not even in the office yet, but he's already trying to beat Bush in stupidity:

    Re: i offer a bet

I agree with 412.   An often overlooked thing about running for president that the voters Always take into consideration.....  that our president is also commander in chief of the armed forces.

McCain has experience.   Name a running democrat who even comes close?   Nobody.   You got a woman, A liberal black guy with an arabic name, and a guy who is more worried about his hair than the country.

McCain is an american hero by any standards by virtue of his service in Vietnam.

Now, frankly, I would vote for Guiliani before McCain.  But he is my second choice, and will do just fine.

Guiliani is a Washington outsider and is not of the dreaded "Establishment".  He is my first choice, though I don't agree with him on Abortion.

and the first two (in both of your lists) are a problem because??

If you don't like the people, fine.  If you have a problem with them just because one is a woman and the other isn't white enough.......

    Re: i offer a bet

    Problems with a woman president:

    1.  They cry too easy.  If they are having a bad day, and somebody says something bad about her hair or dress, she might gonna start crying (just like she cried a couple weeks ago).  Now, having the leader of the Free World (the commander-in-chief) crying cuz she's having a bad hair day just isn't gonna work.

    2.  They are more likely to use nuclear weapons during that time of the month....can we really risk that??

    3.  It sets precedent for a younger sexier woman being President in the future.  I just don't want to be physically attracted to a commander-in-chief ("I just love a woman in uniform" gets uncomfortable for me)

    4.  In general, women are too manipulative, conniving, political and shifty by nature.  It's like putting a cat in a room full of catnip......nothing good can come from that.

    5.  Look at all the Fortune 500 woman CEO's we've had inthe last few years - they don't seem to handle the pressure - too easily frazzled.  You gotta give McCAin credit for being a prisoner of war - now that's a tough guy.  Hillary is, well, a freakin' lawyer who's crawled her way up to the top on the coat-tails of Billy The Political Butcher Clinton

    6.  I agree with all the women that are saying "Sure, I'd love a woman President.  I just don't want Hilary as that woman".  Maybe I'll change my mind if Ann Coultier runs for president (I might be able to live with #3 after all).

    Re: i offer a bet

McCain is the least of all evils here, imho.

And if you are republican, I would grab onto him for dear life and pray he keeps that swing vote and doesn't piss anyone off :)

Democrats, on the other hand have a terrible strategy, they are well-known for losing elections they should have won recently. Don't be surprised if it happens again.  They should have 75% just by doing nothing at all :)  (This might work for Obama actually, who knows :)  )

The terms of the bet have changed ... what happened to the 2 mil? Did you spend it on the bottle of vodka?
