Oh. My. God. :o))))))))))))))))))) OK. Here is a deal. It's 21-st century now. Right? Everyone has the right to whatever he/she wants to do. If you feel discriminated - fight back. It's OK to fight. If not - perfect! - do what YOU (not "socium" around you) want to do whether it's physics or sellling cosmetics, being a business woman or at-home hen. Why would you care about somebody's opinion on that? Just do it. :o) "If love is the answer, could you rephrase the question?" Lilly Tomlin.

Oh my lord...Alina, unknowingly you may have formulated what will go down into the annals of history as the first recorded official leftist motto...

Sad. I'm more a material girl. And I don't understand a damn in poems. Well - if they don't need it, I'll sell it to someone else - what's a deal? "If love is the answer, could you rephrase the question?" Lilly Tomlin.

ANTON, dear, the problem is that you stressed the wrong part. But it's OK. Everyone usually sees only what she/he wants to see. :o) This one:

explains everyhting. If she wants to be a physic - I don't see any obstacles for not being the one. If the attitude of surrounding socium bothers her - it means that she doesn't want it that much. Otherwise she won't give a f... to what they say. If she's better in selling what was that.. "Mary Cay"? - why in the world she would want to become a physic? And the last question: what exactly are we arguing about here? "If love is the answer, could you rephrase the question?" It's not about her becoming a physicist. It's about her having opportunities denied to her in the physics world because of stereotypes based on gender. Anais "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." Anais Nin

having opportunities denied to her in the physics world because of stereotypes based on gender What is that exactly mean ? Which opportunities were denied to Maria Curi ? Or other women who made it to the top in sciences ...

I see. May be I'm not that familiar with the world of physics (actually - I'm not, at all), but speaking of business (which is pretty much boys' club, serious business I mean, not "punching in numbers in a computer") - it's like a praradize here in comparisoon with what they have back in Russia (I already posted smth about that). And yes, I definitely see EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES here. And "God bless America" for them, seriously. Why there are still less women among CEOs? Elementary - it was their own choice I guess. First of all it's a hard, 12 hours a day work and making a choice between her family interests and her career. Or at least, finding a right balance between them. How many women did succeed in finding that balance? Or how many were ready to work 12 hours a day (not everyone is as crazy as me, I guess...). Well... There are still some stereotypes, I guess - but they are correctable. You jsut have to be tough and not to accept the role that someone tries to force you to accept sometimes ("you take notes - we do the "real" stuff"). Jsut don't give a f... to it as I said, do what you think you should do. I think science is pretty much the same - if she's worht something - she won't miss the opportunity to proove it, no matter what they say. Am I wrong? business requires aggressiveness... by nature women are sorta less aggressive (when not provoked), and therefore they do poorly in it. works that require collaboration and peace (like being a secretary or librarian) are not suitable for people with heavy temper, and therefore are better for women. the peaceful works (the cozy, relaxed, and comfortable ones, where there is no risk to your mental and physical health), pay less. That makes peace loving jobs a breeding ground for hatred, feminism, and other desperate types of isms. women wanting a safe environment, a wealthy husband, and on top of all that, a high paying low risk job are like ... hmm.... what's the least offensive word to describe them?

"..........business requires aggressiveness... by nature women are sorta less aggressive (when not provoked), and therefore they do poorly in it...." Paaaaliz... It's all about sacrifies (family versus career) - that's it. It doesnt' require to be agressive all the time. But it requires to be tough - yes.
