    Little Brother by Cory Doctorow

Has anyone else read it? The author is one of the Boing Boing dudes.

Admittedly, it isn't the most soothing reading material for someone with paranoid tendencies, but I think he's right on with our current direction in this country.

And, I'm so planning to make the hidden camera finder.

    II,

For the purposes of this discussion, I'm referring to the systematic destruction of civil liberties and constitutional rights, the US becoming more and more like a police state, and the general thuggery of two of our newest government agencies/departments.

It's good and it's an important one -- his best in my opinion. You can download the book free on his website if you want to read it.

I believe it is not limited to the US, it's a global tendency, and it is unavoidable.  At least considering status quo.

Can you give an example of how your liberties and/or constitutional rights have been destroyed or violated?

Well, lets see. I was rather fond of privacy, free speech, freedom of assembly, due process, and the prohibition of unreasonable search and seizure, but my government has decided those really aren't guaranteed or important any longer.

What would have to change to make it avoidable?

last time I checked - nothing has changed in this area since late 50-ties. :)

except one thing - people started to talk more about it.....

when government wanted or needed none of those mattered. not in this country nor anywhere else......
